Known as a spectacular cascade of water, Niagara Falls is comprised of three falls – American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Horseshoe Falls. The largest and most majestic is Horseshoe Falls, which separates the United States from Canada. Tourists can view the falls from either country, but many choose to view them from both. Views are spectacular and unique from every angle. If you’re considering crossing the border, make sure you have the necessary documentation.

There are many ways to view Niagara Falls. View them by helicopter, Ferris wheel, walkways, observation decks, and even by ziplining. View them for free by visiting Niagara Falls State Park in New York or Queen Victoria Park in Ontario.

Here are the two most popular tours for an up-close view and once-in-a-lifetime experience. Visit during the summer because you will get wet despite the rain poncho that the tours provide.

Maid of the Mist: The Maid of the Mist boat tour begins in the United States at the observation tower in the Niagara Falls State Park. This 20-minute cruise, that has been in operation since the 1840s, passes the base of American Falls to the basin of Horseshoe Falls. It crosses into Canadian waters briefly. However, documentation is not required. The view is incredible, and the price is affordable.

Journey Behind the Falls: The Journey Behind the Falls tour is located in Table Rock Center, Ontario, Canada. This self-guided tour begins with a spectacular view of Horseshoe Falls and the Niagara River from an observation deck that is 13-stories high. Descend 125-150 feet by elevator and walk through 130-year-old tunnels to get views from below the falls. This affordable and very popular tour takes 30 to 45 minutes. To avoid crowds, it’s best to get there by 9am.

There is plenty to do if you extend your trip. Additional activities for families include Old Fort Niagara (U.S.) as well as Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory (both located in Canada). Additional activities for adults include casinos, various wineries, microbreweries and distilleries, and nightclubs. Let PointSearch help you create your custom travel itinerary.
