Whether you want to escape to some place warm and tropical or experience the magic of the holidays in a big city, a recent article from Thrillist Travel has some terrific ideas for winter holiday vacations that won’t break the bank.

Five U.S. destinations made the list of affordable winter vacation spots. These included:

•  New York City, where you can take in a show and shop until you drop
•  Hawaii, where the temps are still high, but the flights are low
•  Las Vegas, where you can get discounts around the holidays for everything from shows to hotel rooms
•  Orlando, where you can check out the theme parks and the great outdoors without the excess heat and humidity
•  San Antonio, a less popular destination that features great food, scenic landscapes and lots to do in the great outdoors when temperatures are milder – typically in the 60s – in the winter
